„Since I booked the
flight I was looking forward to travel to Ghana.
I was excited about the people, the country, the
culture … about everything. The time in
Ghana was the most beautiful time in my life.
I enjoyed every minute, both at the project and
during traveling. I loved the fact that there
was so much to see, experience and take in.
For my
placement with Nutshell Care Foundation, I worked
in Accra, once at a school called "New Generation
School" and second a school for poorer kids,
called "Homwac". I really loved twice
projects. The children and teachers in twice projects
were very nice and friendly. Every morning when
I came to one project the kids run to me and huged
me. I will never forget them. At New Generation
School I helped the teachers during the lessons,
I teached the kids a bit in maths, we often played
games or we sung songs. On wednesdays and thursdays
I was at Homwac. I occupated the kids with drawing,
singing and so on. They also liked it when I made
some pictures of them with my camera :-)
I collected so
many experiences and I don't know where I should
begin to explain. And I don't think anyone can
really fully understand they gain and experience
of the country. The more I saw of how people live
and although it's so different to Europe, the
people were so happy and helpful to me.
In my free time
I tried to see a lot from Ghana's country and
culture. I travelled with Nutshell Care Foundation
in one week around Ghana. This trip was very great
because I could see so many differences in the
landscape. From white beaches to rainforrests
and waterfalls, I saw animals, like elephants
and so many other things - it was really great.
After my projects I often went to „coco
beach“, because the sea is very close to
the accomodation. I also spent some time on African
markets and on evenings I went out with some friends.
Nutshell Care
Foundation is doing good work, it's a young organization
but very good organized. In my first days I got
a schedule and the staff always asked me if I'm
happy with my room and so on. Every day I got
African dishes and I really liked this food very
much. NCF staff is very friendly and very helpful.
They cared a lot for me.
When I arrived
in Ghana, the people helped me that it's easy
for me to orientate in the area. They have shown
me a lot of useful places and teached me a bit
in the local language called "Twi".
I would recommend
to other volunteers to enjoy every single minute
in Ghana and try to travel a lot. Try to help
the people in the project, they will appreciate
it.
I will never forget
the time in Ghana. I wish I could stay longer
but it was not possible because of my education.
It was of course the right decision for me to
do such thing. I learned a lot and I'm sure that
I'll repeat on day such thing.“
